RESULTS OF
V INTERNATIONAL WATER FORUM "AQUA UKRAINE '2007"

The International Water Forum "AQUA Ukraine '2007" for the fifth time took place in Ukraine.
Within the framework of the Forum the work of the exhibition of advanced technologies and equipment for water treatment, water supply and water removal was combined with the scientific and practical conference "WATER and ENVIRONMENT" (Organizer - Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine) and with V Scientific and Practical Seminar "Ukraine-water supply-XXI century" (Organizer - Foundation for water technologies development).
Water supply is needed for the stable functioning of all constituents of social economic complex of the state, and the problem of quality of drinking-water is one of the questions of national safety. These questions and also the necessity to protect and save natural water resources determined basic orientation of the exhibition and scientific and practical program of the Forum.
Considering the state value of the subject the Forum is annually conducted under the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The main task of International Water Forum "AQUA UKRAINE" is to assist the introduction of modern technologies for the resources economy, water usage and treatment in Ukraine, to present the samples of products and equipment, and to attract executive authorities, scientists, entrepreneurs to the discussion of water and ecological problems of the industry.
In the solemn ceremony of opening of the Forum, which took place on 9th October at 12:00, participated representatives of Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine, Ministry of Building, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, State Committee For Water Management of Ukraine, International Exhibition Centre, chief delegates, ambassadors, other honored guests, representatives of Ukrainian and foreign mass-media.

After the Greeting the participants, visitors of the exhibition and honorable guests got acquainted with expositions in the pavilion and outdoors with total area over 8 000 sq.m.
The 250 firms, organizations and enterprises from 23 countries, including Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Sweden, India, USA, Austria, France and other countries presented their production under the following topics:
Water preparation for drinking, industrial water supply and power-generating purposes
Municipal, industrial and agricultural water supply
Municipal, industrial agricultural sewage treatment
Sewage water sediment treatment
Engineering networks
Devices and systems for water preparation, water supply and water removal

Scientific and practical conference "WATER and ENVIRONMENT", which was held during three days of the Forum, served the ground for the discussions among specialists in search of the ways of solving problems in this industry under the following topics:
International cooperation of Ukraine in the area of water resources protection and ecosystems, including transboundary aspect and cooperation with EU.
Contemporary state and problems of water resources of Ukraine (surface and ground water), Government policy in the area of use, protection and recovery of water resources.
Legal and normative aspects of water legislation of Ukraine and the necessity of a harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU Frame Water Directive and other EU directives.
State water monitoring, water harmful action prevention and liquidation.
Water economy of Ukraine, its problems and prospects for a further development.
Contemporary state and the ways of reforming of water and canalization enterprises of Ukraine.
Financial and economic aspects of water and communal economies functioning, questions of investments inviting.
"Water and Health" Minutes, drinking water quality, problems of quality water supply, associated legislative and normative base.
Innovative methods and technologies of water processing and purification.
Bottled water.
Over 400 participants during three days took part in the work of the conference "WATER and ENVIRONMENT". Among them were representatives of the State Committee for Water Management of Ukraine, regional water economies, sanitary and epidemiological stations, institutes of higher education, basin water resources administrations, R&D and design institutes and the largest industrial Ukrainian enterprises, managerial staff of foreign companies. During three days over 50 lecturers including guests from Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Germany, Latvia, Belgium, Austria and representatives of international organizations (IWA, TACIS, UNDF-GEF). Problems of drinking water were discussed during Round Table "Drinking and bottled water in Ukraine. Safety, Standards, Control", which was carried out on 10th October during the Conference.

The seminar "Ukraine-water supply-XXI century" was carried out on October 10, dedicated to the problems of introduction of progressive energy saving technologies at municipal enterprises of water and sewage economy. They were representing central executive bodies, local governments and state administrations, R&D and design institutes, water treatment plants, educational institutions and also enterprises and companies of Ukraine, Russia and USA.
Broad-scaled advertising campaign along with the rich program of events contributed to the attraction of participants and visitors (enclosed).
During the working days of the Forum more than 9 000 guests (including 8 000 specialists) from Ukraine and the near foreign countries visited the event. Among them:
Experts in water sphere - 46%
Representatives of industrial enterprises - 42%
Representatives of scientific and educational establishments- 11%
Others (representatives of social organizations, Embassies) - 1%
By the results of the event over 80 companies showed the willingness to participate in the Forum in 2008.
